Bottles2boats, an innovative educational recycling program, was presented at the Regional Sailing Championship of Southern Greece 2019 at Aiolos Sailing Club, Kalamata, Greece.

This program literally transforms plastic bottles to sailboats.

Bottles2boats promotes “The Educational Circle of Recycling” with a 5-fold aim and corresponding 5-step boat-building process. The exhibit showcased all 5 steps/stages: 1) Collection of plastic bottles, 2) Shredding of bottles on hand-held shredder and shredder-bicycle, 3) Weaving of plastic cords on customised loom, 4) Building of boat hull with plastic net, 5) Completed sailboat.

Everyone was encouraged to try the various methods of shredding plastic bottles as well as weaving on the customized loom. The interactive exhibit attracted children and adults alike, helping to promote “The Educational Circle of Recycling” – 1) educational awareness, 2) physical activity, 3) innovative recycling, 4) upcycled equipment and 5) reward participation.
